All goods and services in the UAE carry a VAT of 5%. But do you know that it is possible to purchase goods tax-free? Tax-free shopping is now possible, whereby shoppers get a refund of the VAT paid on certain purchases. All they have to do is validate their purchase at the point of exit. Every overseas tourist of age 18 years and above is now eligible for a VAT refund for purchases made in the UAE.
Legacy Method
Shop from any of our registered merchants. Once done, request a tax free transaction for your shopping.
The merchant will enter all your information, like your name as entered in the passport/GCC ID and your valid phone number, into the digital tax free system.
You will be issued a tax invoice along with a Planet tax free tag affixed to the back of the tax invoice. Scan the QR code on the tag to visit the shopper portal.
Before leaving the UAE, validate your tax free purchases at any of Planet’s validation points located at all major exit points. Present your travel documents, goods, and tax invoices to Planet’s staff prior to check-in counters.
Paperless Method
Shop from any of the registered merchants. Once done, request a tax free transaction for your shopping.
The merchant will enter all your information, like your name as entered in the passport/GCC ID and your valid mobile number, into the digital tax free system.
You will be issued a digital tax invoice by the merchant. An SMS will be sent to your valid mobile number upon issuance of your first paperless transaction. Follow the link to the shopper portal to review all your transactions.
Before leaving the UAE, validate your tax free purchases at any of Planet’s validation points located at all major exit points. Present your travel documents and goods to Planet’s staff prior to check-in counters
You can request a retailer registered with Planet, to issue you a tax free transaction for all your eligible purchases while you are in-store. To ensure that your tax free transaction has been successfully recorded in Planet’s digital tax free system, please log into Planet’s Shopper Portal by scanning the QR code.
You must leave the UAE within 6 hours of completing the validation process. Failure to do so will result in your refund being cancelled, and you will be required to restart the validation process.
Green Channel Validation : Your transactions have all been validated and you can proceed directly to the next step of the process
Once validated, please choose a refund method: Card, or Cash or Digital Wallets (available after immigration).
If you choose a Card refund, Planet will process it within 9 days after you have exited the country.
Go to Planet's validation point prior to checking in your luggage.
Present travel document and have all tax invoices and goods ready for inspection.
Red Channel Validation: Your goods may need to be checked at the Planet validation point after immigration.
Head to the Planet validation point after immigration. Once validated, choose a refund method: Cash, Card or Digital Wallets.
If you choose a Card refund, Planet will process it within 9 days after you have exited the country.
